As i pronounced earlier i was going to spend a day at Sven’s college. Sven once told me he wanted to show what a day at college looks like and yesterday was finally the right time. The prof’s didn’t looked weird or suspicious since there where alot of new students around, i was just another new student in their eyes.
So beginning of the day, had to get up at 06:00 AM, got myself ready, only took my laptop, some money and a pen with me and mom drove me at the station since Sven would wait for me at the right perron. But once i got my ticket and such i suddenly didn’t felt very good. My muscles where hurting in combination with headache and tiredness. I thought it would go over since it was early and i thought it was because i was tired.
Around 07:05AM Sven arrived and we waited for the train to get us to Ghent. I started to feel better though i wasn’t 100%. We arrived at Ghent-Saint-Pieters, in normal customstances Sven needs to take the bus to get at Artevelde since it’s a long way from the station to the place but there was a friend who could take us to college with the car. Once arrived we had to wait until 09:15AM for the first lesson to start. In the meantime i got to know his friends who where quite nice. :) And finally the first lesson started. We sat in the aula and the prof showed us a powerpoint-presentation and explained all the terms as easy as possible to understand for us. I did saw some terms i already knew (since Sven follows this course that is basically the same as i do) but i caught up some new stuff which is handy. :)
After 2 hours of that class we had French, but Sven told me we would be put in small groups and chances where low we would sit together, and me appearing with no books would seem suspicious so he suggested i would spend those hours he had French in the Media-library-studie room. There was free internet and books i could read (sadly no fiction books, would have been awesome) so i didn’t mind spending time there. I sat on the computer for some minutes checking mails and once i closed off, searched for some books to read (i picked some up about illustrations) and sat down to look into them i started to feel really bad. I felt cold, i was kinda sweating, shaking a little, my muscles where hurting, etc. I tried not getting it over me but i couldn’t hold on and i tried sleeping, in the hope i would feel better afterwards but unfortunatly it didn’t got better and had to spend the rest of the day like that. :/ After lunch i spend another two hours in the studiehall trying to get some sleep. Sven said i should ask the miss who runs the studyhall for a pillow but she didn’t had one, the school also didn’t had a place i could rest or for other students who suddenly turn out to be sick, they expect sick students to go home offcourse. I wished i could go home too but i would instantly get lost since i’ve only been a few times in Ghent and i didn’t wanted to get separated from Sven.
After those two hours of being in this half-sleeping phase we had an hour and half English. A very exciting moment for me since it would be my very first English lesson ever, i’m superserious over here. I’m right now in Highschool and i’m doing this course where you barely get theory-lessons, i only get French when it comes onto languege-lessons. This means i never got an English lesson in my entire life. I’m lucky to have listened to songs in English and watching movies in English when i was young. Most people always react very suprised when i tell them i never had English at school in my entire life. I once got a reaction saying: ‘Honestly, i thought you where American until i saw your video and heard your accent.’ :D
So yeah, we got into the aula again and the prof immediatly started off announcing the big test that would be around end february. She also noticed me and some other people as new students and introduced herself a little to us. She constantly spoke English and i was able to understand her perfectly. There was also a little test we did through the Powerpoint which was like this:
So you had a sentence in Dutch and you had to choose the right translation by choosing between 4 possible awnsers. I did make a few mistakes but overal i had most of them correct. :D
I also noticed the teachers know Sven well, everytime he awnsers a question and adds a dry joke with it they always laugh, i guess they like him. :P Me, Sven, Eline and Nina (two friends of his) where passing this drawing and each of us would add something new onto it. We did this right in front of the teacher, she finally noticed, asked: ‘Ahh Mister Mercks is drawing nonsense as i can see…’, she picked it up, looked at it, said: ‘Ah well it looks nice, please continue.’ and gave the drawing back. If that happens in highschool you would get detention, in college you can plan on your Nintendo DS of play videogames on your PC, they don’t give really care if people don’t pay attention.
Afterwards there was a lecture about the Maya’s, since i was still not feeling well i decided to sleep during the whole lecture. I know it’s inappropriate to do that when someone is trying to explain a subject for alot of people but i’ve seen some people sleeping during class as well. I hope the man who gave the whole lecture didn’t took it personal, he got a big applause afterwards. After that we where lucky so have someone who wanted to drop us off at the station from Ghent-Saint-Pieters and take the train back home. I was lucky mom and Diego (my stephdad) waited for me at the trainstation and took me home. First thing my mom said was: ‘Oh sweety, you look so pale!’
And now i’m sitting here still being sick. Mom thinks i have the flu since it’s official here in the country, alot of people have the flu right now. But i noticed i get sick pretty much alot, maybe i should take some vitamines in the future…
Anywho, that’s how my very first college day looked like. I’m very relieved i didn’t got caught or that people didn’t look suspicious. This period has alot of new students attending so i was just another new student for the professors and other students as well.
But unfortunatly i’m still sick, i feel better than yesterday though but today i normally had a cosplay-shoot with friends but i had to cancel, there’s no way i can do a photoshoot in this state. D: I always seem to get sick on the wrong place and wrong time.
So yeah, that’s how i spend my day at Sven’s college. It’s such a shame i actually fell sick during the day and i missed two other lessons but overall i enjoyed the lessons i attended. :)
